About NextSalahClock

A free, privacy-friendly utility for every Muslim who needs reliable prayer times, anywhere on Earth.

What NextSalahClock is

NextSalahClock answers one everyday question, “when is the next prayer here?”, and the handful of questions that come with it: the full day's timetable, the month ahead, the Qibla direction, the Ramadan schedule, the Hijri date. It is built to be the fastest, cleanest way to get a trustworthy answer.

Principles

  • Accuracy first. Real astronomy via the open-source Adhan JS engine; city pages compute in the city's own IANA timezone with automatic DST. We validate against officially published timetables.
  • Honesty over convenience. Predicted dates are labelled as predicted. When an angle-based time doesn't exist at high latitude, the page says exactly which approximation is in use. Times shown are prayer start times, never presented as mosque iqamah times.
  • Privacy by default. No accounts. Your preferences and saved cities never leave your browser. Location access happens only when you explicitly press the location button.
  • Genuinely useful, not decorative. Every button on the site does what it says. Exports produce real files with real data.

Technology and data

  • Prayer calculations: Adhan JS (MIT licence) by batoulapps.
  • Timezones: IANA tz database via the platform's ICU implementation (automatic daylight-saving rules).
  • Hijri calendar: Umm al-Qura algorithmic calendar via ICU/CLDR.
  • City dataset: a curated, attribution-compliant selection derived from GeoNames (CC-BY 4.0), including coordinates, country codes, regions/timezones and common alternative spellings.
  • Built with Next.js, React, TypeScript and Tailwind CSS.

Who runs NextSalahClock

NextSalahClock is run independently by the NextSalahClock team, based in the United Kingdom. It is not affiliated with any mosque, government or calculation authority. We check the calculator against published timetables, including those of major mosques and national authorities, and correct anything readers report.

How we check accuracy

  • Every time is calculated live from the city's coordinates and date. Nothing is copied from third-party timetables or estimated by hand.
  • Where a calculation is not possible, for example where the sun does not set, the page says so and names the convention it uses instead.
  • Our guides explain the methods behind the numbers, with worked examples from the same engine.

How it stays free

The tools are free and are supported by advertising from Google. Ads are kept away from prayer times and the countdown, are never shown on the fullscreen clock or embeddable widget, and are kept separate from religious information. Details of cookies and consent are in our privacy policy. In future we may offer optional paid services for mosques and organisations, such as branded, ad-free widgets.
